After the news broke out, the entire world mourned the passing of one of the best mangaka of all time. Some fans were confident that Berserk would remain unfinished, but to their surprise, Mori Kouji confirmed that the manga would reach its conclusion. Mori, who was close to Miura, stated that he would be working alongside the team of Berserk to ensure that his friend’s masterpiece is finished. They have been working on the series for a while now, and they have improved with every passing chapter. Berserk 371 was easily the best chapter that they have released ever since taking over.

The chapter focused on the aftermath of Griffith’s departure. The leader of the Band of Hawk revealed his true self to the people of Skellig and kidnapped Casca. Guts tried to stop him, but he was powerless before the might of Griffith. Seeing Casca being taken away affected Guts severely. He could not believe that none of his attacks reached Griffith. What makes it so much worse is the fact that Guts has been training all this time to beat Griffith. So, his inability to even graze his former comrade made Guts fall into despair.

In the chapter, Guts locked himself up inside one of the rooms on the ship. He was still mortified by the events that took place before his eyes. The people on the ship were also troubled, as it seemed that the vessel would be destroyed by the torrid weather. At the end of the chapter, fans could see Sonia awaiting the arrival of Griffith. The White Hawk eventually descended from the skies with Casca in her arms.

Prior to the last six chapters or so, Guts was actually on the path to recovery. He was doing well, and he was happy that he had found people who cared about him. Little did he know that his entire life would come crumbling down in a matter of minutes. The latest chapter beautifully captures the moment Guts hits rock bottom. In fact, it was so brilliant that there was absolutely no need for words.

Schierke tried to help Guts to deal with his problems, so she used Astral Projection. When she touched the Dragon Slayer, she could see the memories of Guts and his sword. Schierke witnessed everything: all the hardships that they endured, all the times they battled apostles, and all the times they fell into the pits of despair. Among all these visions, Schierke also saw Griffith, but before she could learn anything else, Guts collapsed.

The next chapter of Berserk is going to be monumental. Given the fact that Guts is at an all-time low, he needs to find hope somewhere among all the darkness. Guts’ best bet is that someone will enter his consciousness, and they will guide him down the right path or remind him why he cannot quit after journeying this far. While Guts is dealing with his demons, the people on the ship are worried about their lives. They face a predicament of their own, as they need to find a way to get away from the storm. It is possible that the Skull Knight might help them in some way.

Away from all the chaos, Griffith will probably be planning what he needs to do with Casca. While Griffith may seem unbeatable, there have been certain moments where he has looked unstable. This is linked to the Moonlight Boy, so it doesn’t seem that he will kill her. When Griffith took Casca away, she was not awake. So, in the next chapter, Casca will very likely wake up, and once she realizes that Griffith took her away, she might have a breakdown again. Casca’s introduction might also cause problems for Sonia, who is close to Griffith, and lead her down a path of evil. Things are heating up, and the next chapter can’t come soon enough.

Ever since Mori Kouji took over the direction, at the end of every chapter, the team has mentioned the release date for the next chapter. However, there was no release date at the end of Chapter 371. There is no reason to fret, as it is probably due to Mori and the rest of the team assessing how they should proceed from here on out.

The story is clearly at a sensitive point, and straying too far from Miura’s outline could affect the whole series and cause outrage among the fans. So, they have to be extremely careful with their approach. For the time being, fans should wait for an announcement from the official sources in the upcoming weeks, and one of them will hopefully confirm the serialization of Berserk on a monthly basis.
