7 Magical Knight Rayearth

CLAMP first published Magical Knight Rayearth in 195 and is a three-volume epic where three young girls are called into a magical world and given the power to face off against an evil threat that is destabilizing the realm.

Hikari, Umi, and Foo are called out to by the princess of Cephiro while on a school field trip which drags them to the faraway land where they meet a mage that charges them with saving the princess and the world. Magical Knight Rayearth can be thought of as an isekai before isekai was so popular, combing elements from the genre with that of the Magical Girl troupe.

6 Tokyo Babylon

Tokyo Babylon serves as the prequel to the X the series, also created and published by CLAMP. The story follows Subaru Sumaragi, a psychic shaman who must get to the bottom of a murder after a series of bizarre occurrences.

Subaru is the lead shaman of his clan, charged with exorcising dangerous spirits, but when the spirits have become attached to a sadistic killer, Subaru is put to the test while dealing with the past trauma of his brother’s betrayal. Tokyo Babylon received an OVA, a television series, and a feature film that is the foundation of the CLAMP universe.

5 X - The Series

X- the series is the direct sequel of Tokyo Babylon, which earned a feature film and anime series telling the story of an evil force that puts the world in jeopardy. It is set during a war between the Dragons of heaven and the dragons of earth, which erupts in the middle of Tokyo.

Kamui finally returns home just in time to be pulled into the conflict while still dealing with his past and trying to come to terms with his future. Unfortunately, Kamui finds out that destiny is not something he can control, and in the time he spends fighting it, the world may be lost in the process.

4 Chobits

Chobits was CLAMP’s nineteenth published work and arguably one of their most successful. Chobits is set in a distant future where tightly advanced computers now reside in human-featured frames called persocoms.

Hideki comes into possession of a persocom and does get what he expected; only able to say one word, the persocom is incapable of downloading information and can only speak “Chii” which Hideki decides to name her. Hideki ponders whether or not Chii is a special persocom that has become able to feel and learn and decides to teach her about the world.

3 Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles

One of the most well-known and popular anime based on CLAMPS manga is Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. Syaoran and Sakura are childhood friends; when exploring an ancient ruin, Sakura becomes engulfed in light and grows a pair of angel wings.

Unfortunately, Sakura’s wings explode, and the feather scatters through the far reaches of different dimensions stripping Sakura of her memory and health. Syaoran swears to collect each feather and return Sakura’s memory and save her life. Watanuki is a young high school boy with the ability to see spirits; Watanuki is very opposed to this ability and wants to be rid of it for good. When he wanders into a strange house, he encounters Yuuko, a mysterious woman who offers to grant his wish of taking away his ability.

Unfortunately, to have his wish granted, Watanuki must work at Yuuko’s business which grants wishes to people for a price. Watanuki agrees and winds up being pulled into the world of magic, chaos, and the supernatural.

1 Cardcaptor Sakura

Cardcaptor Sakura was a wildly successful manga and even more successful anime series gaining popularity and success worldwide, especially in western culture. Young Sakura Kinomoto takes it upon herself to undo a mistake after she unleashes a book of mystical creatures into the world. Now, one by one, Sakura tracks down the creatures and reseals them into the cards they came from.

Cardcaptor Sakura was highly praised for breathing fresh life into the magical girl genre and has won numerous awards for its story, art, and overall production.
