Out of everything released so far, which is the best arc in Boruto?
Updated May 31, 2022, by Rei Penber: Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is continuing currently racing towards the end of its Code arc. Despite being nowhere near its completion, the series has already produced some absolutely magnificent arcs with some frighteningly powerful villains rearing their ugly heads over the years. With this list already ranking all of the Boruto arcs published so far, it seemed fitting to expand it by mentioning the main antagonists of every Boruto arc and elaborating upon the role that they ended up playing in the overarching story.
5 Mujina Bandits Arc
Although short, the “Mujina Bandits” arc is quite important to the plot as it introduces fans to the major powers at play in Boruto. While most of the plot is about Boruto’s friendship with Tento, the son of the Daimyo of the Land of Fire, the arc also introduces Shojoji, a powerful bandit with the power of the Corpse Clone Jutsu. Shojoji’s attempt to kidnap Tento is successful, however, he is then rescued by none other than Boruto Uzumaki.
Boruto gets to show off his newly learned skills and even goes as far as taking Shojoji all alone in battle. Eventually, his team help rescue Tento and Shojoji is defeated. The most important part of the arc comes at the very end when Kara, the main antagonists of the story, make their appearance. At the same time, Shojoji reveals some information about Boruto’s Karma and the plot finally begins to get more interesting.
Mujina Bandits Arc Villain - Shojoji
The user of the Corpse Clone Jutsu, Shojoji was the main antagonist of the Mujina Bandits Arc. In terms of power, he wasn’t all that impressive, as even the likes of Boruto Uzumaki could take him on in battle.
Shojoji’s biggest strength was the ability to clone others with his powerful Jutsu. However, he was eventually easily taken down by Boruto once his friends had come to back him up. Eventually, Shojoji was used in the story to open up the path to Kara, making Mujina Bandits one of the most crucial Boruto arcs.
4 Ao Arc
“Ao” follows the events of Shojoji’s arc and sees Boruto Uzumaki continue his life without knowing much about the Karma. Meanwhile, Kara, the criminal organization, finally make their move. As a large blimp crashes near the border of the land of Fire, Konohamaru’s group is sent to investigate it and that’s where the trouble begins.

The advanced technology of Kara is finally revealed. At the same time, Ao, a former Jonin from Kirigakure, is revealed to be alive and, worse, a member of Kara. To defeat Ao, Team 7 unites all their forces and Boruto makes use of the scientific technology that he very much detests in the right manner, showing him that it is how a weapon is used that counts. The arc also introduces fans to Kashin Koji and, finally, Kawaki.
Ao Arc Villain - Ao
Ao was brought back in his own Boruto arc for the purpose of getting the fans hooked. He certainly played quite a great role in doing just that when he was made the main antagonist of his very own arc.
Having lost his spirit as shinobi, Ao also served as a tool for Kara, and put fear in Team 7, including the Jonin Konohamaru Sarutobi. Ao was eventually defeated by Boruto after he showed his tricks and skills as a ninja to him. Although Boruto refused to kill him, Kashin Koji immediately made his entry and finished the job for him.
3 Code Arc
The Code arc is the ongoing Boruto manga arc with quite a lot of interesting plot points in it. As the name suggests, the arc focuses mainly on Code, the successor of Isshiki Otsutsuki who plans to have Amado remove all his limiters so he can access his true strength in battle. Code is quite powerful and when he attacks Konohagakure in search of Kawaki, he is stopped by none other than Boruto Uzumaki.
The two engage in an enthralling fight and even Naruto makes an appearance in battle. Momoshiki eventually takes over Boruto’s consciousness and as he aims to attack Naruto, Kawaki brings forth his Karma. This leads to the very first major battle between Kawaki and Boruto, which results in the latter getting stabbed through his chest. With time, this arc will be explored more and fans will be able to judge where it stands when compared to the other arcs better.
Code Arc Villain - Code
After Isshiki’s death, Code became the main antagonist of the overarching plot of the Boruto series. Having inherited a white Karma from Isshiki, Code was entrusted with the Will of the Otsutsuki.

Code plans to avenge Isshiki’s death and show the world what a menace he truly is. Using Amado, Code was finally able to get his limiters off, and, in the process, become the strongest person alive. Eventually, Code will face off against Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki.
2 Versus Momoshiki Arc
The very first arc of the Boruto series, the “Versus Momoshiki” arc is the manga adaptation of Boruto: Naruto the Movie. The arc focuses on Boruto’s character and slowly builds him up to the fans. Boruto, being neglected by his father, looks for ways to get his attention and ends up cheating his way to the finals of the Chunin Exams. While this in itself makes for a great plot, the added threat of the Otsutsuki clan, specifically Momoshiki Otsutsuki and Kinshiki Otsutsuki, raises the intensity through the roof.

The manga adds very little to the movie but does change a few things, such as Momoshiki’s character design. The conclusion of the arc sets up the rest of the Boruto series, which is then explored properly in the manga without having any material to base it on.
Versus Momoshiki Arc Villain - Momoshiki Otsutsuki
Momoshiki Otsutsuki was the main antagonist of the Versus Momoshiki arc and served as the biggest obstacle in the path of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Boruto Uzumaki.
As one of the main family members of the Otsutsuki, it was implied that he was stronger than Kaguya Otsutsuki, and, thus, needed the cooperation of Naruto and Sasuke to be taken down. Momoshiki was incredibly skilled with the Rinnegan, but eventually lost the fight when Boruto killed him with a Rasengan.
1 Kawaki Arc
The “Kawaki” arc focuses on the character that every fan of Boruto waited to see since the prologue of the story, Kawaki. With him finally thrown into the mix, the arc gives the fans a glimpse of what his past was like and why Kawaki is as cold as untrusting as he is. At the same time, fans also get to see the power of various Kara members as they make their presence known one by one.
Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha are seen in action once again against Jigen, the strongest member of the Kara. The arc peaks when Isshiki Otsutsuki is resurrected and is then taken on by Naruto Uzumaki, who accesses the Baryon Mode to put a stop to him. Kawaki eventually steps in and tricks Isshiki, killing him off and getting rid of his Karma in the process. Sadly, Naruto ends up losing Kurama and Sasuke loses his Rinnegan in the arc.
Kawaki Arc Villain - Isshiki Otsutsuki
The Kawaki arc remains the very best in the Boruto series so far and its main antagonist, Isshiki Otsutsuki, was one of the biggest reasons for that. Isshiki was, by far, the strongest person in the world of Boruto, apart from Naruto Uzumaki in his Baryon Mode.
Isshiki planned to get his hands on Kawaki to see the fulfillment of his plan. However, thanks to Naruto’s efforts, along with Kawaki’s incredible strategy, Isshiki met his demise, setting the course for Code Arc.
